Dear Students and Families, Welcome to Mrs. Mohler's fourth grade class! You are part of the "big kid" end of the building now. I am excited about the opportunity to get to know you and am excited about a happy and productive year! First a few things about myself: I live in Spencerville with my husband, Todd. We have two children, Christopher and BreAnna, was well as a granddaughter, Kaya. I went to elementary school at Leo Elementary, then to Leo High School, and finally to Indiana University for my teaching degree. I am licensed to teach K-6. I have always taught at Butler Elementary. I started in fifth and sixth grade for five years, moved to fourth grade for 8 years, taught another year in 5th grade, and am back to fourth this year. (Whew, that sounds like I could make an ISTEP math question out of that!)
Curriculum in 4th grade is different from the years' before. Students will have more "reading to learn" work and more books. We will concentrate on skills in: Reading, English, Writing, Math, Science, and Indiana History. We will take the NWEA tests three times and the ISTEP+ in the spring.
EVERY night each student will be responsible for bringing home his/her assignment book. We will write activities or assignments for each class and homework will be highlighted. This will help keep you up to date on daily activities and assignments. The student is also responsible for sharing this with an adult and having them sign it daily. I will be checking it each day, so this is a great place to jot a note to me or your child.
The first day of each week student's will also bring home a "Communication Folder" which will contain graded work from the previous week. This gives the parents an expectation of when to see work and keep them informed on how thier child is progrssig in 4th grade. There is a spot to check if you would like to speak with me. The Communication Folder must be signed and returned each week.
If you have concerns, would like to schedule a conference, or just a a question, my contact information is on the home page.
Again, welcome to 4th grade! Let's work together to make it the best year yet! Sincerely, Mrs. Mohler
